Pawn Shop Owner Sentenced In Money Laundering

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A federal judge has sentenced a Baltimore man to nearly four years in prison for his role in a $20 million scheme to sell stolen goods through area pawn shops.

Spencer Garonzik, 44, was sentenced on Tuesday. He pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy to commit money laundering.

According to his plea agreement, Garonzik, a co-owner of We Buy pawn shop in Catonsville, conducted transactions involving the sale of huge quantities of items stolen from grocery and department stores.

Prosecutors say 14 people have pleaded guilty to their roles in the scheme.
