Baker To Introduce Prince George's Budget

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker is set to release his $2.7 billion budget proposal.

Baker will introduce the budget to the County Council on Monday morning and detail the spending plan in a news conference in the afternoon.

The budget is expected to include a $50 million economic development fund. Modest increases for schools and police are also anticipated.

A report by Baker's transition team says county government needs to communicate better with the public and focus on school reform, the environment and business development.

Baker is trying to restore trust in the Prince George's government after a pay-for-play scandal that led to federal charges against his predecessor, Jack Johnson.
