Md. Minor League Club Thrilled By Harper News

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Bryce Harper may be disappointed, but the Hagerstown Suns are thrilled that the top overall pick in last year's Major League Baseball draft is set to play for the western Maryland club.

The Washington Nationals are sending the prospective outfielder to their Class-A affiliate in Hagerstown to prepare for the season.

Harper has expressed disappointment about being sent down to the minors, but Suns co-owner Bruce Quinn says he's excited about the increased attendance and marketing opportunities Harper could bring.

Harper is expected to make his debut April 5 in an exhibition game against the Harrisburg Senators at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown.
