Canton Business Becomes New Hot Spot

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Canton has a new hot spot, especially for breakfast and lunch and for those looking for a late night meal on the weekends.

Ron Matz reports it's not a bar or restaurant, it's just "Simply Marie's."

Marie Branch is on the grill. Her new place Simply Marie's is becoming a Canton hot spot.

"I worked at the Normandy Room and I met a guy named Jim Baker that owns the Normandy Room and the Tiffany East and he had this building available. I came and looked at it. I've been trying to get my own facility for a couple of years. When I came and looked at it, it was kind of rough and it wasn't ready. Me and my brother re-habbed it and turned it into this," said Branch.

"They have good home cooked food. It's not processed. It's fresh every day. You can't get that in this general area, so I'm always happy about it," said Josh Grose, customer. "It's been great ever since she opened up. I've been nothing but happy and they'll always have my business."

Branch opened just two months ago.

The  people are coming for the waffles and chicken, omelettes and French toast.

All Marie's muffins and biscuits are homemade.

"All the muffins and biscuits I bake myself. The pastries I order from Alan by Perfection in Owings Mills. He does the pastries, I do my own biscuits and muffins every other night," said Branch. "It's overwhelming. I had no idea it was going to get this big that quick. My nerves are shaky. I hit the Baltimore Guide and WJZ called me this morning. Everybody is eating this food. It's really been overwhelming."

Marie opens at midnight on weekends for Canton's late night crowd.

"I open at 6 a.m. and close at 2 p.m. during the week. On weekends I open at midnight until 2 in the afternoon, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There are a lot of bars in the area. When they let out, they come over and eat breakfast," said Branch. "I just wanted to build off my food. That's exactly what's happening. They came here and they ate, they loved it and they started telling their friends and sending people here. It's been real good."

Whether it's breakfast or a late-night craving,  in Canton these days it's Simply Marie's.

"The food is really, really good. You won't be disappointed at all," said Stacey Newton, customer.

Simply Marie's is located on Elliott Street, just a block from the square in Canton.
