COLUMBIA, Md. (WJZ) — The American Red Cross is helping several Howard County families left homeless by a fast-moving fire.

It happened at the Avalon Fairway Hills apartment complex in Columbia Friday morning. Several units were damaged.

Two firefighters were injured. One had a serious hand injury.

The cause is under investigation

  1. Kenneth W. Treuter says:

When a fire rips through a complex that quickly and burns at such high temperatures it’s a testament to how old and poorly constructed the complex is. Cheap building materials. Poor maintenance. Lax and lack of safety concerns and enforcement. One of the myriad reasons NOT to be an apartment complex dweller.
