Md. Lawmakers Question Pay Of School Administrator
BALTIMORE (AP) -- State lawmakers from Baltimore County are questioning the annual salary offered to a deputy schools superintendent who starts work next month.
The Baltimore Sun reports that Sen. Kathy Klausmeier and Del. John Olszewski Jr. sent a letter Friday to Superintendent Joe A. Hairston, challenging the pay given to his deputy at a time when nearly 200 middle and high school teaching positions would be cut under a proposed budget. They also questioned a policy that requires requests for salary information to be submitted in writing.
Renee Foose stands to earn $214,000 a year as the county's deputy superintendent. She is scheduled to start next month.
A school system spokeswoman said Hairston had not received the letter Friday and could not comment on it.
