BLOG: Storms, Colder Weather Ahead

Storms on the way, then a huge weather pattern change to follow.

A strong cold front is moving our way.  There has been light rain, drizzle, and fog out ahead of it, now a line of stronger thunderstorms is moving our way.  A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Carroll/Montgomery/Howard Counties westward through 11 pm.  These thunderstorms have already been producing severe weather over the Midwest with hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes.  Although they will lose some strength as they move across the state, there is the chance of hail and damaging winds with these thunderstorms.

The storms will leave us overnight, but light rain, drizzle and fog will last through tomorrow morning.  Then, winds will pick up out of the north as we move through the day.  Not only will they bring in colder air, they will cause the atmosphere to start mixing again and some sunshine will try to break through as we move through the afternoon.  The colder air is going to stick around for a while.  Our weather pattern is changing at least through the middle of next week.   We will only top out in the upper 40s tomorrow, then only in the 40s again Friday.

Another storm will pass through Saturday into Sunday.  We will stay in the cold air during this storm with highs in the low 40s.  There will be mainly rain out of this one, but the cold air will be close enough that there will be wintry weather in western Maryland and maybe even some snow mixing in farther east.  That storm will get out of here Monday, while the cooler air will stick around into early next week.
