Injured Cyclist’s Family Sues Car Driver For $10M

BALTIMORE (AP) — The family of a comatose cyclist is suing for $10 million the driver of the car that struck him.

Lawyers in the lawsuit filed Monday allege that Jeanette Marie Walke, 83, violated traffic laws on Feb. 26 when she turned into the path of Nathan Krasnopoler, a 20-year-old undergraduate student at Johns Hopkins University.

Police previously said the student was riding in a bike lane when he was struck by the woman, who was trying to make a right turn. Authorities said he was trapped under the vehicle and suffered burns to his face and chest. His lawyers say he remains unconscious at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

An investigation by police is continuing and Walke has not been charged in the crash.

I mean no disrespect to the family and hope for Nathan’s sake that he pulls through and fully recovers from this unfortunate incident. However, I’m sick of these lawsuits… 10 million dollars…. an 83 year old woman, get real.

    • BelAir Steve

Woohoo, I won the “My family member got injured and now I’m entitled lottery”. Show me the money.

I agree with you Michael, this is absurd.

      • Dina

Where do you think the money for Nathan’s health care is going to come from? You’re the one that needs to get real.

  • Bernard Mc Kernan

Everybody wants to hit the “lOTTERY” WITH lawsuits. Too much late night T.V. & lawyer commercials.

    • BelAir Steve

      You’ve got that right.

The victim and family deserve compensation. That’s what car insurance liability is for. But, at the most, they’ll get between $350K to $1mil.

    • BelAir Steve

      Should they receive more? No.

  • just saying

An 83 should not have been operating a motor vehicle anyway!!!!!!

    • Lisa

My grandmother is 85 and an excellent driver….don’t stereotype everyone in the same category.

  • just saying

An 83 year old person should not have been operating a motor vehicle anyway!!!

  • Scott's County

Dude! Everybody sues! Including many of my W.A.S.P friends ” injured” in even the most modest “accident.”

    • Dina

Nathan has been in a coma for the last month. He has severe burns on his face and chest, and has probably suffered permanent brain damage. His health care costs are going to be enormous. How do you think his family is going to be able to pay for it?

  • JK

I know this family personally and can assure you all that this lawsuit is not about the money, but about bringing awareness to the issue of bike riders’ safety. No one thinks they hit the lottery here.

Suing is all well and good, but an 83 year old woman cant pay 10 million dollars. The medical costs will be enormous, but the money has to come from somewhere else.
