Md. Grand Jury Examining Leopold Conduct
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The secretary of Anne Arundel county executive John Leopold has been called before a grand jury to answer questions as part of an investigation into whether he misused government resources.
County officials confirmed that Patty Medlin testified Friday in county Circuit Court in Annapolis.
The state prosecutor's office is probing whether Leopold had officers on his security detail do personal errands related to his re-election campaign.
Leopold, a Republican, has hired prominent trial lawyer Bruce Marcus to defend him. Marcus says Leopold has turned over to investigators his schedule dating back to 2008 in response to a subpoena.
Leopold has said some members of his detail helped him while he was recuperating from two back surgeries but has denied wrongdoing.
