3 Hurt In Small Plane Crash In Caroline County

RIDGELY, Md. (AP) — Maryland State Police say two people from Maryland and one from Virginia were on board a small plane that flipped as it was landing at an air park in Ridgely on the Eastern Shore.

Authorities on Monday identified the passengers as: 24-year-old Austen Ehly, of Pasadena, Md.; 24-year-old Sean Moran, of Easton, Md.; and 23-year-old Kevin Warnke of Alexandria, Va. Ehly was believed to be the pilot.

Two passengers were flown to a hospital in Delaware, and the other was flown to Baltimore. All three were seriously injured.

FAA spokeswoman Arlene Salac says a Piper Aerostar was trying to land shortly after 6 p.m. Monday, when the wind caused it to flip. Maryland State Police say the plane came to rest on its right side, with both wings broken off.

Why call the company that owns the plane? They weren’t’ in the accident… Looks like somebody needed some filler.

Young people make for terrible drivers now its flyers as well.

What an awful thing to say at a time when these three young men are injured and their families are worried sick about them. You should be ashamed of yourself. I know Austen personally and he puts his whole heart into flying. I suggest you keep your mouth shut and your nasty comments to yourself.

You just are down right nasty. Maybe you should think about stop breathing. Unfortunately, you were young once and I bet sure as hell you didn’t walk on water. Do you really like yourself? You are like the Tinman before Dorothy found him – NO HEART!
Some people start flying at an early age – have you ever heard of the Civil Air Patrol? Young does not mean “terrible”!
I said what I wanted – you can too, but guarantee I will not respond to any of your ignorant comebacks. This is 1st and last time I will even acknowledge your existence as being a poor excuse for a human being!

Sheriffwillie, you have no right to make that accusation, before any facts are known. Are you a pilot? I didn’t think so, and so you have no idea what actually happened or how to fly an airplane. This kid got his license at 24…he’s leaps and bounds better than most kids who are stealing and shooting each other. I got my license at 22 and have not crashed an airplane (or a car for that matter).

The wind was howling last night at 6pm. This accident will likely be a weather condition incident involving an unexpected cross-wind gust on very short final approach.

His name is sheriff willie, guess he plays with his ding dong a lot or puts it in his mouth, seems that way from this comment. Old people cant drive worth a hell and he wants to run his mouth. Is the magnifier to x8 on your pc so you can read this?

  • pigeon

To the pilot and his passengers, may you have a speedy recovery. I send my best to you and your families.

  • Cathy

I am sure if they were not qualified they would not be able to fly, that wind was really bad the other night.Hope they will be alright

What a blessing that these young people are okay. Austen is a kind-hearted and brave friend of mine. His passion for flying is surpassed only by his respect for it. Sheriff Willie should reread the article and note the cause of this tragic accident- weather, not youth. Such ignorance is disgusting.

Prayers for Austen and his friends, and their families.
