Jimmy Webb Performing In Charm City At The Cabaret At Germano's Restaurant

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," "Galveston," "MacArthur Park" are just a few of the dozens of hits written by composer Jimmy Webb.

Ron Matz reports that in a few days the legendary songwriter is coming to Baltimore for a special appearance.

Jimmy Webb is one of the most prolific composers of our time. He's coming to the Cabaret at Germano's Restaurant. He will perform some of his unforgettable songs.

"For many he did not perform his own songs in public. Several years ago he decided he was ready to meet his audience. He loves people so the Cabaret is a natural venue for him," said Cyd Wolf, Cabaret at Germano's. "Germano opened the restaurant 33 years ago and our cabaret is 3 years old May 1. It actually started as a venue for the Baltimore School for the Arts. These kids are amazing talents. The kids love the Cabaret. The teachers just have this incredible ability to turn them into professionals. It's kind of an inside the actors studio in Baltimore.

One audience is still talking about Webb's performance last year.

"Jimmy Webb appeared here last September. I don't believe Jimmy had ever been in Baltimore before. He fell in love with our city and with the audience. He had an incredibly attentive audience here," said Wolf. "When you're sitting here and this piano will be in the center of the room, he will be right here. It's one of those experiences that will stay with you for a lifetime. We're thrilled he is going to be back."

Many of Webb's songs are the soundtrack of our lives. Now there is a chance to see him in the most intimate of settings.

"He is legendary. He is the icon of the music industry. He's also the warmest and a gracious, gracious artist and he tells the best stories. I call him the Pied Piper of words," said Wolf. "We all fell in love with him and it was mutual. We had two sold-out shows. He graciously agreed to come back. He'll be here Sunday and Monday April 10 and 11."
