BLOG: Flacco Needs To Be Patient

Joe Flacco, at an appearance this weekend in Aberdeen, said he's not happy that the Ravens have made no effort to reach a new deal with him. Flacco has two years left on his rookie deal.  He believes the Ravens should give him an extension now.  He also issued a veiled threat that, if they don't, maybe he'll just play out the last year of his deal and test the free agent waters.  Joe needs to relax. If I was the Ravens, I'd wait. Their practice is to do a new deal when a player has one year left (Reed, Heap), or franchise the player and then do a deal (Ngata, Suggs, McAlister).  Number one, why would you do a deal when you have no idea what things are going to like when there is a new CBA?  Number two, you have more pressing priorities, like Ngata.  Number three, you might as well see what happens with Flacco and Cameron, and see if he can take the next step.  As Derrick Mason said on our show, Joe's time will come, but now is not that time.
