State's Attorney Names Police Integrity Unit Chief

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore State's Attorney Greg Bernstein is naming a trial attorney to lead his office's police integrity unit.

Bernstein appointed Janice Bledsoe to lead the revamped two-person unit on Wednesday. Bledsoe has been in private practice at her firm, Bledsoe & Goldthorpe, since 2007 and is set to begin her new post next month.

Bernstein is revamping the former police misconduct unit. After reviewing the practices of similar units in other cities, he established a system for tracking police misconduct allegations to make sure the office meets its obligations for disclosing information in criminal cases.
