Records: Leopold Used Officers For Many Tasks

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Newly released documents show that Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold directed members of his security detail to pick up an Abraham Lincoln costume for him for a special event, retrieve his girlfriend from the airport and to drop off citations at private functions.

State prosecutors are considering allegations that Leopold had members of his security detail do tasks related to his re-election campaign. Leopold has admitted having officers do errands for him while he was recuperating from back surgery, but has denied wrongdoing and says the accusations are politically motivated.

Leopold spokesman David Abrams says it's common for members of the staff to help out with routine tasks.

The documents were reported by The Baltimore Sun and The Capital newspaper of Annapolis, which obtained copies of Leopold's schedule.
