Md. Civil War Museum On National Geographic Show

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The National Museum of Civil War Medicine in Frederick has a featured role in a National Geographic Channel show about a Union Army surgeon.

The program, titled "Civil Warriors," starts Monday night.

In the first episode, Executive Director George Wunderlich discusses the grueling hours and horrible conditions Dr. William Childs faced in tending some of the thousands of soldiers injured in the 1862 Battle of Antietam near Sharpsburg.

Childs was a Bath, N.H., native who wrote eloquent letters to his family about the horrors of war. His descendants have published the letters in a book titled "Letters of a Civil War Surgeon."

The show was shot partly at the Pry House Field Hospital on the battlefield. The Pry House is run by the Civil War Medicine Museum.
