9 Texas, Del. Anglers Hit With Rockfish Violations

PRESTON, Md. (AP) -- Nine fishermen from Texas and Delaware are facing charges for fishing in an off-limits area in Maryland's Choptank River.

Maryland Natural Resources Police say the nine are charged with illegally fishing in a spawning area.

Four were charged on April 9 and five more the next day after officers received a tip about illegal fishing.

Natural Resources Police say the fishermen face up to $1,500 in fines for each fish. A May 13 court date was scheduled in Caroline County District Court on the charges.
