DNA Leads To Charges In 2004 Frederick Rape

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Frederick police say they have charged a Hagerstown man with a 2004 rape based on a DNA sample he gave in Tennessee.

NaJarred Walker, 27, denied the charges during a bond-review hearing Tuesday. He was ordered held without bail.

Investigators say Maryland State Police notified them last week that Walker's DNA was entered into a national database after he was convicted of an offense in Tennessee. Police say the sample matched DNA evidence found on the victim of a rape in downtown Frederick in November 2004.

The victim in that case was 16 at the time. She told police she was leaving the downtown public library when a man grabbed her from behind and raped her beneath a bridge along nearby Carroll Creek.
