Frederick Plans Second Outdoor Public Art Project

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The Frederick Arts Council is seeking citizen input on its second outdoor sculpture project.

The group is asking the Board of Alderman on Wednesday for a resolution supporting the effort.

Executive Director Shuan Butcher says the project will consist of 35 temporary works of art to be placed in the city next spring.

He says the council will solicit suggestions from the public on the theme of the sculptures. The arts council sponsored a similar project in 2007 featuring 30 giant skeleton keys that were decorated by artists and auctioned off at the end of the display period.

Several of the keys were vandalized and two were stolen but later recovered.
