Md. Bar Not Penalized After 4 Get Knifed

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- A Cumberland tavern is avoiding penalties in a violent incident that left four patrons with knife wounds.

The Allegany County liquor board said in a letter Monday to Reds bar that its employees should have ejected the alleged assailant when he started picking fights Feb. 6.

The board recommended alcohol-awareness training for all the business's bartenders but stopped short of imposing sanctions ranging from a verbal warning to a fine.

Justin Nizer, 31, of Cumberland is fighting assault charges in the case.
