Powell To Be Grand Marshal Of Grand Prix In Md.

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Organizers of the Baltimore Grand Prix say former Secretary of State Colin Powell will serve as the event's honorary grand marshal.

Powell will give the "start your engines" command to IndyCar drivers at the beginning of the 80-lap event in September.

Organizers say Powell also will have the opportunity to take a 180-mph tour of the temporary street circuit around the city's downtown Inner Harbor area.

Baltimore Grand Prix President Jay Davidson says it's an honor to have Powell serve as grand marshal.

Powell said in a release that he has always had a passion for racing and Baltimore and is looking forward to the tour of the city.

The inaugural Batlimore Grand Prix is scheduled to be held from Sept. 2 to Sept. 4.
