Md. Pounded By Storms, Rain & Wind

BALTIMORE (WJZ)  -- Saturday night's storm sent tides surging, flooding waterfront homes and covering streets.

Suzanne Collins reports Fells Point is one of the low-lying areas flooded by the rain and push of a strong wind.

In Anne Arundel County, one peninsula had the worst conditions since Hurricane Isabel.

On Point Pleasant Peninsula in Glen Burnie, the heavy rain and surging tide flooded the shoreline.  Water lapped over the bulkhead and piers were either entirely covered or close to it.

"The last time it crested the bulkhead is when Isabel came through and at that point, it covered the whole peninsula," said Pat Jacobs.

Tavern owner David Ziranski had to close when water rose behind the bar.

"There were some people standing in the water there a little while ago.  Finally we told 'em we had to close up," he said.

"Just started coming in, you know.  I'd say...eight to 10 inches," said patron Warren Law.

Even though high tide was at 6 p.m., the tide kept rising because there was a big wind pushing the water on to this side of the peninsula.

"It's intimidating.  Mother Nature does her thing regardless," said one onlooker.

The families say they are used to flooding, living so close to the water.  They say they'll spend all day Sunday mopping up mud.

The wind has also knocked out power around Maryland.  According to BGE, about 13,400 customers are without power.  The hardest hit areas are Baltimore City and Baltimore, Anne Arundel and Howard Counties.
