DAVIDSONVILLE, Md. (AP) — Five Maryland counties are launching a program to promote meats that are grown locally and produced humanely.

The Southern Maryland Meats Program begins Monday at Homestead Gardens in Davidsonville with talks on the environmental and nutritional benefits of buying local meats. The five participating counties are Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Prince George’s and St. Mary’s.

Homestead Gardens is one of three locations in Anne Arundel County that will carry meats registered with the program.
