Orioles Add LHP Rapada, Put RHP Jakubauskas On DL

BALTIMORE (AP) -- The Baltimore Orioles purchased the contract of reliever Clay Rapada and put right-hander Chris Jakubauskas on the 15-day disabled list Monday.

To make room for Rapada on the 40-man roster, the Orioles moved right-hander Justin Duchscherer from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL. Signed during the offseason as a free agent, Duchscherer developed hip soreness in spring training camp and has yet to make his debut with Baltimore.

Rapada is 3-0 with a 4.22 ERA in 46 games over four seasons. That includes last year, when the left-hander pitched in 13 games with Texas.

"I've been in the American League for parts of three years," Rapada said. "I've faced a lot of those lefty hitters, and I'm confident I can get those guys out."

In two games with Triple-A Norfolk, Rapada pitched two scoreless innings and earned a save.

"Certainly he had a lot of success against left-hand hitters last year and over his career," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "But the biggest reason (he was promoted) is the guy pitching the best out of the bullpen down there was Clay Rapada."

Jakubauskas allowed six runs in 7 1-3 innings after being summoned from Triple-A Norfolk on April 9. He developed a groin injury on Saturday in Cleveland.

"We gave him a couple days, hoping that it was something that would not be lingering," Showalter said. "It looks like it's going to be a week to 10 days."
