Brentwood Mayor Says She Is Repaying Town

BRENTWOOD, Md. (AP) -- The mayor of Brentwood, Md., says she is repaying the more than $7,500 she allegedly withdrew on a town debit card to pay for personal expenses.

Xzavier Montgomery-Wright said during a five-hour meeting of the Brentwood Town Council on Monday that she has repaid all but $1,000 of the total. During the meeting, residents called for her arrest and asked her to step down.

Earlier this year, Montgomery-Wright was censured by town officials for using a debit card without council approval.

Montgomery-Wright says she also has found a new home days after being evicted from the house she had rented in the small Prince George's County municipality for about eight years. Her landlord says Montgomery-Wright owes him more than $7,000 in back rent.
