2 Bodies Found In River Near Conowingo Dam

PORT DEPOSIT, Md. (WJZ/AP) -- State police are investigating the discovery of two bodies in the Susquehanna River near the Conowingo Dam.

Andrea Fujii has the latest on the investigation.

Police say the body of a woman was discovered Wednesday morning north of the dam. After the body was pulled from the water, the body of a man was spotted south of the dam around 2 p.m.  People around there say it's rare to find one body, let alone two, but police won't say whether the two are connected.

"It's shocking," said Karen Pawlowski.  "It's a pretty nice neighborhood."

The bodies were found between three and four miles apart.

They've been taken to the Chief Medical Examiner's office in Baltimore for autopsies and identification efforts. Police say the races and ages of the two people are unknown. Police spokesman Greg Shipley says it's too early to speculate about the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

"The only connection is that they were both found in the Susquehanna River in the area of the Conowingo Dam," said Greg Shipley, Maryland State Police spokesperson.

Homicide detectives are investigating and have shared information about the discovery with police departments in
Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania.
