Man Convicted Of Killing Girlfriend's Infant
WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) -- A judge has convicted a Sykesville man of second-degree murder in the 2009 death of his girlfriend's 8-month-old daughter.
Carroll County Circuit Judge J. Barry Hughes convicted Donald Pevia Jr. on Wednesday and set sentencing for July 7. Pevia was ordered held without bail.
Eight-month-old Ky'leigh Rogers was taken to Carroll Hospital Center on March 3, 2009 with apparent breathing trouble and died later that day. Her death was ruled a homicide, caused by bleeding from numerous internal injuries caused by blunt force trauma.
Pevia had been one of the infant's main caregivers in the weeks before her death.
