Baltimore City Announces Street Closures During Schaefer's Memorial Services

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists of the traffic modifications and parking restrictions in effect next week during the funeral services for former Maryland Governor and Baltimore Mayor William Donald Schaefer. 

In preparation for these events, the following roads will be closed on Monday, April 25, 2011:

Saratoga Street between Gay and Holliday Streets from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Lexington Street between Guilford Avenue and Gay Street from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Holliday Street from Saratoga to Lexington Streets from 4 p.m. -- 6 p.m.

In preparation for the funeral service on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 the following streets will be closed with parking restrictions in effect:

Fayette Street between Gay and North Charles Streets from 10:15 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.

North Charles Street between Fayette and Mulberry Streets from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Saratoga Street between Liberty and Charles Streets from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Area garages located in the vicinity of the road closures listed above will be affected by the funeral service on Wednesday morning. Patrons who utilize these garages will have access to park until 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2011. Then from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., only controlled access to these garages will be allowed for those who are attending the funeral. Patrons will be able to exit the garages at any time.   

Motorists should also be aware that during times of movement for both the final tour of the city and the funeral service, there will be temporary road closures along the procession routes. Temporary delays should be expected during these times.

Citizens who do not have to travel on Monday in the vicinity of the final tour of the city or on Wednesday during the funeral service are strongly encouraged to avoid these areas.
