Dozens Spruce Up Gwynns Falls For Earth Day

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Sprucing up the city for Earth Day.  Dozens of volunteers turned out for the annual Ravens and M&T Bank service projects.

Andrea Fujii has more on the improvements.

The Gwynns Falls Trail near M&T Bank Stadium is getting an Earth Day makeover for the people and dogs who use it.

"Earth Day is a chance to come together as a community and fix up Baltimore and prove what makes Baltimore great," said Phil Hosmer, M&T Bank VP.

Nearly 80 volunteers from M&T Bank, Baltimore City, the Ravens organization and other groups came for the event, including Ravens cheerleaders who traded in pom-poms for paint brushes.

"It's great when we can get out there and be supporting to the community and be involved as much as possible," said Lauren E., Ravens cheerleader.

Clearing out brush, picking up trash, building benches and adding dog waste stations are some of the improvements.

"We have a great trail in Baltimore--the Gwynns Falls Trail--and we have an opportunity to make it even better," said Hosmer.

Earth Day is the one day dedicated to appreciating the environment and it's celebrated around the world.

"I think it's just a way that we can make better for the next generation," said Kate Kasabula, Ravens volunteer.

No gloomy weather was going to slow down Earth's little helpers.

"I'm gonna keep a positive attitude and a smile on my face, and keep movin'," said Dwayne Thomas, volunteer.

This is the second year the Ravens organization and M&T Bank volunteers have spruced up areas of the city for Earth Day.
