New York Ave. Work Will Reduce Lanes In Both Directions

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Motorists are being advised that a reconstruction project on New York Avenue could impact commuting times in and out of Washington.

The D.C. Department of Transportation plans to start a major rehabilitation project on the New York Avenue bridge on Monday. The work will require the closure of one inbound lane and one outbound lane on the bridge between Florida Avenue and Penn Street in northeast.

The department says commuters can expect delays of 15 to 30 minutes during the project, which is expected to last about two years.

To compensate some New York Avenue commuters for the inconvenience, the department is offering a monthly incentive of $50 to be used toward another form of transportation. The program is being offered on a first come, first serve basis.
