1 Dead, 1 Hurt After House Fire In Potomac, Md.

POTOMAC, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County fire officials say one man is dead and another is injured after a fire started in the kitchen of a Potomac home.

Firefighters were called to the home in the 8500-block of Scarboro Court around 4:40 a.m. Sunday. They found two men in their mid-70s.

Officials say the homeowner was unconscious and was taken to a local hospital, where he later died. The other man was taken to the hospital with minor smoke inhalation and he is in stable condition.

It took 65 firefighters about 25 minutes to control the fire.

The blaze caused about $400,000 in damage to the house and its contents.

Fire officials say a damaged sauce pan was found on a stovetop burner, where the man who survived said they were cooking.
