Chafee To Baltimore On Fact-Finding Mission
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee is heading to Baltimore with the state's House speaker, its Senate president and the mayor of Providence to gather information about medical- and research-related industries there.
The group is scheduled to depart Friday and plans to visit the University of Maryland Medical Center and BioPark, a bioscience innovation and research center. Chafee says they provide potential models for the creation of a medical, life-sciences and research hub in Providence.
The governor made a similar trip to Houston's Texas Medical Center in February.
Providence Mayor Angel Taveras, Senate President Teresa Paiva-Weed, House Speaker Gordon Fox and medical and business officials are expected to join Chafee.
