BALTIMORE (AP) —  A police escort for a group of wounded troops headed to a baseball game in Baltimore could snarl traffic on the Capital Beltway and Interstate 95.

Gov. Martin O’Malley and Baltimore Police Commissioner Frederick Bealefeld are hosting the group of about 25 troops wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan at Wednesday night’s Orioles game against the Boston Red Sox.

Baltimore police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says representatives of several police agencies will escort the troops from the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda around 3 p.m. to Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore. They will also escort the group back to Bethesda after the game.

  2. Doug says:

Sounds like too many cops involved.
    Snared for 25 troops ??
Cheaper to put them all in limo’s

  3. Joe says:

If Charlie Sheen (The Tiger Blood Drug Head) can have a police escort why
the HELL can;t our brave troops can’t ?? Don’t understand people like old
left winger Doug,s comment. I say you pay for the limos and I will get the
    police escort !!!!

  4. Proud American says:

Personally, I think traffic should come to a halt and people should salute as they pass to show their appreciation for the sacrafices these men and women have made for our country!!! Who cares if it takes us a bit longer to get home?? Do you think they were worried about traffic when they were getting shot at or wounded doing what we ask them to do???

  5. Honored to sit in Traffic says:

It’s sad that it even has to brought to this—it should be an automatic that they would have a police escort and that people should be expected and honored to sit in traffice while our veterans go to a game–or anywhere else–What the hell has happened to this country

  6. babs says:

I hope and pray that everyone who attends the game this evening will stand and salute the wounded soldiers. God bless our troops and their families whereever they are.

  7. JOJO DANCER says:

To many of them are worried, if the President birth certifcate is a fraud or the wedding for the royal welfare family.

    1. Jeff says:

What does this have to do with the above story???

      1. JOJO DANCER says:

To many of you are not worried about the real issue facing America.
the wounded veteran, high gas prices, no jobs, yes you will post in your momma basement how proud you are at our veteran but what will you say when the repuke want to cut off funding for us. Can you feel me now Jeff?

  8. sarge says:

I concur with “Proud American”. As a retired veteran, these Gentlemen and possible Ladies have put their lives in front of ours probably more times than we can count for the freedom that we still have. Why shouldn’t they get an escort? Because it’s going to disrupt “Dougs” communte. Oh well, “Doug” get over it. It is a sacrafice that you will have to endeur for today. I salute them now. I hope they enjoy themselves.

  9. GregC says:

This left-winger is glad the wounded troops are getting to go to a ball game, and getting a police escort.
