Baltimore School Official Quits Amid Resume Probe
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A high-ranking Baltimore school official has resigned after questions were raised about his education, which includes degrees from institutions criticized as "diploma mills."
Kevin Seawright stepped down from a $135,000-a-year post as the public school system's deputy chief operating officer. Schools CEO Andres Alonso made the announcement Thursday in an email, saying Seawright had worked tirelessly in the position he has held since 2008.
The Baltimore Sun reported Friday that the resignation came a day after the newspaper asked school officials about Seawright's academic credentials. The newspaper reported Seawright's resume included degrees from institutions that are not accredited by the U.S. Department of Education.
