Helicopter Lifts Stranded Kayaker From Md. Lake

NEW MARKET, Md. (AP) — Officials say a stranded kayaker was lifted by helicopter from Lake Linganore after his boat was overcome by high water.

New Market fire officials say it happened about 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Authorities say the man was stranded on a flooded strip of land in a narrow part of the lake. A state police helicopter hoisted the man out of the water.

Officials say a woman who was also in the kayak was able to get to shore and call police.

  2. sheriff says:

your tax dollars at work.Like doesn’t this idiot ever watch the weather channel?

  3. Outraged taxpayer says:

I firmly believe people who need rescuing from recreational choices should be billed by the authorities. These rescuers put themselves in peril every time they respond to a call and needless nonsense like this should be paid for by the victim, if they go to a hospital for medical treatment they are billed, so why not for these services. It is not cheap to put a multimillion dollar helicopter in the air for this they go to a hospital for medical treatment they are billed, so why not for these services. It is not cheap to put a multimillion dollar helicopter in the air for this type of situation along with all the ground support units.

I believe in natural selection, you and mother nature get into it,you better Bear Grylls your way out or do not go out there.Do not waste my money as well ,to rescue your but when in fact you had a kayak or boat!Lame.

  5. Don says:

How does one become overtaken by high water in a kayak anyway?

  6. pigeon says:

Some people are just plain stupid! It’s that simple (as were the kayakers).

  7. David C. Hindle says:

For that matter the kayakers should be retested to for their driver’s license,
My westhighland terrior can make smarter outdoor decisions and stay away and get out of danger when faced with them. I receive people who are having life threatening injuries, mostly heart attacks where the cost of helio transport is warranted.Someone made it to shore the other stranded, any body having chest pain? Think people think,I’m willing to bet kayakers had cell phone and easier to dial 911 than think of a way out and cost them and the rest of taxpayers money.

  8. sheriff says:

Send the kayakers the bill for the heli rode, the dic heads.
