Woman Falls Through Hatch At Metro Station

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Metro officials say two workers have been fired after a 52-year-old woman fell through an escalator access hatch at the Pentagon station.

Officials said during a board committee meeting Thursday that two escalator technicians were fired last week after the incident.

Metro says the woman fell into the hole on April 20, more than four hours after an escalator technician had left work. Officials say the hatch should have been closed.

The woman suffered a knee injury and laceration to her chin. She was hospitalized for her injuries and released on April 22.
