There’s no doubt Jimmy Smith has the physical talents deserving of a top 15 pick in the draft. But his off the field issues caused him to drop off some team’s boards and fall into the Ravens lap at 26, I mean 27 (that’s a different blog).

I was at the Ravens press conference introducing Smith on Saturday.  I believe him when he says that all of that is in the past.  It doesn’t mean it is….only time will tell.  However, I believe that he is committed to making the effort to make it in the past. I love that he said that Ozzie Newsome and John Harbaugh stuck their necks out for him, and he didn’t want to embarrass them.  He struck me as a smart guy, backed up by the fact that he got his degree.  Based on what he know about him physically, and what the Ravens learned about him through their process, I think some teams will regret not taking him ahead of the Ravens.
