5 Maryland Correctional Officers Indicted

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Maryland corrections officials say five correctional officers have been indicted by a grand jury on assault charges.

Corrections officials say the charges stem from a January incident at Baltimore's Central Booking Center. Eight officers were placed on administrative leave following the incident, including the warden and a major at the Baltimore Central Booking and Intake Center.

The department of corrections issued a statement Monday saying the five include the major and four officers and it plans to fire all eight.

The Jan. 8 incident involved a 26-year old woman who was booked on minor charges and later taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The five were identified as 42-year-old Acting Major Larry Morris, 31-year-old Kimberly Livingston, 24-year-old Shannon Rivies, 22-year-old Aleesha Edmond and 23-year-old Terrence Taylor.
