Man Found Dead, Woman Shot After Standoff In Randallstown

RANDALLSTOWN, Md. (WJZ)—A shooting in Randallstown leaves one man dead and his wife in the hospital.

Derek Valcourt explains how the violence unfolded.

Police feared an armed gunman was inside the home, but after a few tense moments they found him dead.

The normal silence in this Randallstown neighborhood was disrupted by gunshots inside a home in the 4200-block of Dressage Court.

Neighbors say they first heard two shots and then a short time later as many as 10 more. The woman who lives inside was shot twice in the leg—at the hands of her husband.

Paramedics treated her in front of a neighbor's home while police tried to make contact with her husband inside.

But when Swat teams entered the home, police say he had already taken his own life.

"We initially thought it was a neighbor on the end that we didn't know, and then we realized it was my daughter's classmate's mom," said Karen Williams.

Neighbors say the couple has a 13-year-old girl who was not home at the time of the shooting but returned home with another relative just as paramedics were treating her mother.

"We saw her falling apart when she heard that her mom was shot and that was kind of disturbing," Williams said. "That was disturbing for everybody in my family to hear that she found out her mom was shot. And now I'm sure hearing that her father is not alive that's going to be devastating."

Police say the woman was taken to Shock Trauma and is expected to survive.

There's no word yet on what triggered the shooting.
