Police Arrest Man Wanted In Md. Abduction

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) — Police in Cumberland say a suspect in the abduction and beating of an elderly Frostburg man is in custody in Pittsburgh.

They say Pittsburgh police arrested Jonathan Bittner, 29, of Frostburg during an early-morning traffic stop Monday.

Police say Bittner is charged in Pennsylvania with possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Bittner is charged in a Maryland arrest warrant with kidnapping, assault, robbery and other offenses stemming from the abduction Thursday of a 71-year-old man.

The victim told police Bittner forced him into his own car and then fled after crashing it on Interstate 68.

Police say the victim managed to drive to a Cumberland exit, where he was found by a passer-by.
