USDA Announces Summer Food Service Program

LAUREL, Md. (AP) --  USDA officials are joining Anne Arundel County schools leaders to announce efforts to feed children in the community over the summer and share food safety tips.

USDA undersecretaries Kevin Concannon and Elisabeth Hagen will visit students Thursday at Maryland City Elementary School in Laurel to announce free meals for all children ages 2 to 18 in the Meade High School cluster over the summer. It's part of the USDA's Summer Food Service Program, which aims to ease childhood hunger while schools are out of session.

The event will also involve a one-day food safety camp for more than 200 students and a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the school's new garden.
