Worker Killed In Aberdeen Lab Explosion IDed

ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. (AP) -- Aberdeen Proving Ground officials are identifying a contractor killed in an explosion and fire at a laboratory at the installation.

Officials say Nanaj Bhamare, a subcontractor to Battelle under an Army contract, died while working in a laboratory at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense on April 30.

Bhamare was found dead after firefighters extinguished the fire, but other workers in the building at the time were not injured. The incident is under investigation.

APG is an Army research, development, test and engineering facility for weapons and equipment. The institute aims to discover and develop countermeasures to chemical warfare agents and train and educate personnel in the medical management of chemical casualties.
