Carroll Co. Wins Award For Oral History Project

WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) -- A project aimed at preserving Carroll County's oral histories has won a Maryland Historic Trust award.

The Carroll County History Project is being honored with the 2011 Maryland Preservation Award for Educational Excellence. It will receive the award at a conference in Annapolis on May 20.

Cindy Piazza, of the Community Media Center, says the project has trained more than 100 volunteers to collect oral histories about the county. She says the project, which began in 2008, now contains about 500 stories.

Piazza said the group plans to continue the initiative for years to come.
