Head Of D.C. Child Welfare Agency Resigns From Post

WASHINGTON (AP) — The director of the D.C. Child and Family Services Agency has resigned after a court-appointed monitor delivered a mixed review of the agency’s progress.

Agency spokeswoman Mindy Good says Roque Gerald’s resignation is effective at the end of May.

Former Mayor Adrian Fenty appointed Gerald to head the agency in 2008, six months after the city discovered Banita Jacks had murdered her four daughters and left them decomposing in her southeast Washington home. Social workers at the agency were fired after the discovery for allegedly not adequately responding to a report of abuse months before the girls’ bodies were discovered.

An inspector general’s recent audit of the agency found flaws still remain three years after the Jacks’ deaths.

Gerald has been serving as interim director under Mayor Vincent Gray.

That agency like most social services agencies are a warehouse for minority hires that are ill trained & incompetent at best.
