Prince George's Officer Shoots Man In Cottage City

COTTAGE CITY, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County police say an officer has shot an armed man in Cottage City while investigating a domestic incident.

Police say officers responded to the 3800-block of Cottage Terrace on Sunday evening in search of a suspect who had been involved in a domestic-related shooting earlier in the day in Brentwood. Authorities say one officer was confronted by the armed suspect and shot him.

The suspect, identified as Edward Vincent McRavin, 49, of Colmar Manor, was being treated for non-life threatening injuries. Police say McRavin shot and injured a woman and attempted to fire at a 10-year-old boy, but the gun misfired.

The officer who fired his weapon was identified as Lt. Harold Simms III. Police say he was placed on administrative leave, per department policy.
