USPS Airs Md. Postal Consolidation Proposal

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The U.S. Postal Service is giving citizens a chance to comment on its proposal for closing a mail processing and distribution center in Frederick.

The agency scheduled a meeting for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Frederick High School to explain the consolidation plan.

The center employs about 160 people. Plant manager Bruce Wall said last month that about 85 of them could apply for jobs in Baltimore. He says the rest would be reassigned to other jobs.

A Postal Service study says the consolidation would save $4.2 million.
