W.Va. 12-Year-Old Catches Record Maryland Fish

MERCERSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland Department of Natural Resources says a 12-year-old West Virginia angler caught a 31.75-pound muskellunge.

The fish caught in the Potomac River on April 14 set a state record. The Department of Natural Resources says Kenneth Files of Falling Waters, W.Va. was fishing with his father and caught the fish with a large white plastic grub lure.

The fish measured 45 inches long and 24 inches around.

The Department of Natural Resources says the record fish is a female estimated to be 11 years old. The previous record was a 28.25-pound muskellunge caught in 2004.
