Hopkins Advances In NCAAs, 12-5 Over Hofstra

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Johns Hopkins scored eight goals in the second half and beat Hofstra 12-5 Saturday in the first round of the NCAA lacrosse tournament.

Kyle Wharton scored three goals and Chris Boland had two goals and three assists for the Blue Jays. Hopkins will play Denver or Villanova in the NCAA quarterfinals next weekend.

Hofstra's Jay Card had a goal and two assists. The Pride's Brad Loizeaux scored with 6 seconds left before halftime to tie it at 4.

Hopkins began the second half with three straight goals. Goalie Pierce Bassett made nine saves, including five after halftime.
