P.G. County Exec. Nominates Police And Fire Chiefs

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker III has made his choices for police and fire chief, and the names are familiar ones.

Baker on Friday nominated Acting Police Chief Mark Magaw to take the top spot permanently. He also announced Marc Bashoor is his choice to permanently lead the fire department, where he was serving as interim chief.

Both men have long histories with their respective agencies. Bashoor is a 23-year veteran of the fire department, and Magaw is a 27-year veteran of the police department.

Baker also selected five other people as agency heads for budget, environment, housing, finance and procurement departments.

Baker's selections are subject to confirmation by the County Council, which must act on the nominations within 45 days.
