Maryland Tops UNC 13-6 In 1st Round Of NCAAs

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- Drew Snider scored four goals to lead Maryland past North Carolina 13-6 on Sunday in the first round of the NCAA men's lacrosse tournament.

Ryan Young added two goals and three assists for the Terrapins (11-4), who never trailed in earning a spot opposite the Syracuse-Siena winner in the quarterfinals next weekend.

The Tar Heels (10-6) pulled within 7-5 with 9 minutes left in the third quarter before Maryland broke the game open with six straight goals — two each by Snider and Kevin Cooper.

Billy Bitter had three goals to lead North Carolina.

Maryland scored on 13 of its 21 shots on goal.
