Road Projects To Test Commuters This Summer

WASHINGTON (AP) --  Washington-area commuters will be dealing with a variety of road construction projects in all three jurisdictions this summer.

Many of those projects are on major commuter routes into the District of Columbia.

Virginia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Joan Morris calls it "one of the busiest construction seasons we've had in a long time."

Among the projects: finishing the Intercounty Connector interchanges over heavily traveled Route 29 and Briggs Chaney Road in Montgomery County.

Construction on the Capital Beltway around Tysons Corner will continue. Beginning this month, workers will start shifting high-occupancy toll lanes from the median to the outer lanes and rebuilding more than 50 bridges and overpasses.

Meanwhile, in the district, the 14th Street Bridge rehabilitation project continues, along with other construction.
